Accretion

I started off with just the idea that I wanted to paint something primarily black and red to go on the wall of my new apartment. The idea for the eye came next. The final product was designed to mimic a conceptual drawing I saw years ago of matter accretion from a star orbiting a black hole.

I made the preliminary sketch back in June, very roughly and on a page of my sketchbook. I didn't even start on the big paper (1.5 x 2 ft.) until a day or two ago. From sketch to final copy, it took about four hours.

As it is too large to fit in my scanner, I had to photograph it. This means that it was subject to my lack of photography skills and turned out quite horrible. Luckily, I have GIMP to fix the worst of my mistakes. It still looks better on my wall, but that's what always seems to happen.



Edit: upon later inspection, I was really hit by just how bad of a photo this was. I'll learn how to use a camera eventually...
